Joomla! Revolution!

After faithfully serving the wider Melbourne Joomla community, the JoomlaMUG site is being reborn as the penultimate industry based hub for all things Joomla across Melbourne.

Why is this so?

This site has held the same position on major search engines since launch, and it's time to give something back to the community. This will benefit businesses, resellers, designers and end users of Joomla across Melbourne, Victoria and Australia.

This will include
  • SEO training for Joomla
  • Site critiques of new Australian Joomla based (or sister codebase) sites
  • A better job board, allowing reputation management between studios and clients.

So what is JoomlaMUG ?

JoomlaMUG is the site for Joomla! users, developers, designers and integrators in Melbourne, Australia and the surrounding area.  We also welcome users from other CMS and webwork, such as Drupal , Tequp , WSG and Mambo  to be involved, in the spirit of what Joomla! embodies. All people, working together, as a whole... in this case, within Melbourne.

As the MUG is aimed at providing networking and skill sharing across many industries, we'd like just for people to meet, catch up over a beer and talk code and design. Ideally, a MUG meet would also include people from other professions, CMSes and industries so as to be as outwardly focussed as possible.

How often do you meet ?

The aim for the MUG is to have lots of informal meets around Melbourne, and have close collaboration on other events with other web based groups across Melbourne so as to 'share the code' and promote open standards. Please see our event calendar if you need more info. Submit some details for an event if you wish, and it may turn up.

The first official Joomla!Day 07 is the first meet for the MUG, as well as being the unveliing of this new site.

What are the goals of the MUG?

The goals of JoomlaMUG are as follows:

  • Meet new people
  • Learn about Joomla! and other web tech
  • Share, collaborate, network
  • Have fun

Any registration fees ?

There are no registration fees to join JoomlaMUG at this time. All we ask is that you be nice to those around you when you meet at the MUG.  Your account will be policed if there is non-Melbourne content submitted.

We also will be providing a merchandise online store later this year in order to maintain and promote Joomla! within your local community. It's also where the name came from - one of our first products should be a Joomla! mug.
